do I have to blog this all over again?

We’ll start this Sunday catchup with news that I actually mentioned on Facebook earlier this week: My tentative writing plans are in place for 2016. These include three more Monkey Queen books (not counting Redblade, which will hopefully debut in the next few weeks), and the first three books in a new series. It’ll be fantasy adventure, set in the same multiverse as the Monkey Queen stories. Since I won’t be writing just about Michiko and Beth, I’ve changed the name of my Facebook page to “Robert Dahlen – writer“. If you’re on Facebook, please like my page; I try to update or share there every day, and I’d love to hear from you, here or there!

More, including spoilers and an artistic surprise, after the cut. Continue reading

tear the top right off of my blog

Sundays mean catchup, and I get to start with a follow-up from last Sunday’s post: Work on the sixth Monkey Queen book has officially begun! I know I said last week I’d be waiting for NaNoWriMo…but I found a hook for the opening scene and got excited. As mentioned earlier, this will be the first part of a trilogy, and it will test Michiko and Beth like never before. More, including an important appeal, after the cut. Continue reading

all these things you blogged, you blogged sincerely

First, I realized that I forgot to include a link to KBoards in my last post, so consider that rectified. I usually hang out in the Writer’s Cafe forum, using the cunningly conceived forum name “Robert Dahlen”, but there are also forums there for discussing Kindles, other e-readers, books and other subjects. Come on by and say hi! More after the cut. Continue reading

Everyone in town blogged Mr. Webster

We’re kicking off this Sunday catchup, and wrapping up our anniversary week, with big news: We’re pleased to announce that Willow, who has done such wonderful covers for the Monkey Queen series, will be returning to do the cover for the upcoming fifth book, Redblade! We still can’t set a publication date yet, but if you were to say “mid-November”, we wouldn’t argue with you. More after the cut!

Speaking of, congratulations to Willow for completing her BD, The Journey Of Earth, and getting it to the printer! She’ll have copies for sale next month! Look for a peek at the cover later this week, and if you want to preorder a copy, contact her through her Facebook or DeviantArt pages! (Remember that the book is only French…but things can change.)

If you missed this week’s posts, you really should go back and read them all. It was fun looking back at the Monkey Queen’s first year. We hope you’ll stick around; the best is yet to come for Michiko and Beth!

Oh, and the anniversary day happened to coincide with a certain day in the author’s life, so he may have been out last night eating a hamburger and ice cream to celebrate it. Please don’t spoil the Doctor Who season opener here. Thanks.

And speaking of thanks… The music starts at about 30 seconds in, and coincidentally, that’s when someone starts chopping onions nearby, because I’m reminded again of how fortunate I am to be able to do this, and how grateful I am to all of you for your support. Thank you again, thank you all.

She’s got a blog that tells about everybody’s past

Putting this up early with a last reminder: Later today is my Q&A chat at the  eFestival of Words (8:30 AM Pacific / 11:30 AM Eastern / 5:30 PM CET), and then Michiko will be part of the Heroes Vs. Villains panel (11:00 AM Pacific / 2:00 PM Eastern / 8:00 PM CET)! And as a thank-you, we’ve marked down Of Introductions And Abductions, the first Monkey Queen book, to 99 cents through Monday! More after the cut.

Speaking of 99 cents, that will also get you Awakened, the first book in the Dakota Shepherd series from Shei Darksbane with Darksbane Books! And the second, Hunted, has just come out! Good urban fantasy adventure, with a snarky but lovable main character, and a new favorite here at Monkey Queen Books!

D23 is this weekend, and there may be a new Disney Infinity post this coming week, as they’re due to announce three more figures on Sunday. This year’s expo has been all about the Star Wars, at least to most people, but I was most intrigued by the announced sequel to The Incredibles. It’s been reported for a while, but it’s good to have confirmation from Pixar, and with Brad Bird returning, we can hope that it’s as good as the first was. But I suppose I should be concerned about the fact that Pixar announced or confirmed five films, and only one of them isn’t a sequel…

And finally, in case you somehow missed this earlier this week: Whoa.

Last chance! Get The Brigadoon Boondoggle for 99 cents US!

It may be the end for Michiko and Beth…and it’s the end of this sale! Today is the last day for US fans to get the second Monkey Queen book, The Brigadoon Boondoggle, for just 99 cents at Amazon.com! This sale will end at 11:59 PM PST tonight, so don’t wait! And enjoy this excerpt from Chapter Three!

The skinny man with the British accent and the sandshoes stood in front of the blue police box and smiled. “It’s all yours, Beth,” he said. “Everywhere, everywhen. And all you have to do is come inside.” As he spoke, the door to the police box swung open.

“Do not be fooled, Beth McGill!” They both turned and saw the old, bearded man with the gray pointed hat and matching robes strike the ground with his staff. “Your place is by my side! Faithful companions! Epic quests! The world is yours!”

The skinny man snorted. “One world? I can give her galaxies!”

“And endless danger! You attract trouble everywhere you go!”

“I do not!”

“You take a vacation on a beach and a sharknado touches down!”

“Look who’s talking! You lost how many on that first quest? Three out of thirteen?”

“But only one on the second! It’s not that—”

“Enough prattle.”

Shadows swept out of nowhere and engulfed the two men, ending their argument. Beth felt a moment of regret—she had been enjoying that dream quite a bit—but it faded quickly. She shivered. She knew that voice.

The shadows seemed to take form as a woman walked out from them. She wore a flowing black robe, her hair was long and black, and her eyes held a cruel joy. “Beth McGill,” Muirin said. “We meet again.” She smiled.

“How—” Beth started to say.

“How did I get into your dream?” Muirin strolled casually towards Beth. “I walk through shadows, and your dreams are filled with them. It’s very exhausting, but revenge will be worth it.”
